Terms of service
Last updated: [DATE]
The short version
You buy a child's email address for a fixed term. Email sent to it is forwarded to your own inbox. The address can receive email but can't send it.
When the term ends, you can renew. If you don't, the address stops working and, after a long gap, may be given to another family.
You can cancel for a full refund within 14 days of buying.
This summary helps you find your way around. The full terms below are what apply.
1. About us
Mummy's Mail (mummysmail.com) is a trading name of Glasgow Engineering Ltd, a company registered in Scotland with company number SC146270. Our registered office is 37 Balfron Rd, Ralston, Paisley, PA1 3HD, United Kingdom. Our VAT number is GB507312032. Email us at hello@mummysmail.com.
In these terms, "we" and "us" means Glasgow Engineering Ltd, trading as Mummy's Mail. "You" means the adult who buys and manages the address. "Your child" means the child the address is for.
2. What the service is
We give your child an email address on hermums.com or hisdads.com, such as isla@hermums.com. Any email sent to that address is automatically forwarded to an email address you choose (your "forwarding address").
- There is no separate inbox and no login for your child. Emails go to your inbox, and you decide what to share.
- The address can only receive email. It can't be used to send email. When you reply to a message, your reply comes from your own email address, and the other person will see it.
- We run the service using an email provider, Migadu, which receives and forwards the emails. We don't keep copies of forwarded emails. Migadu keeps basic delivery records for 7 days and backups of its systems for 14 days, as explained in our privacy notice.
3. Who can use it
You must be 18 or over and be the child's parent or legal guardian, or have their permission. If you're buying the address as a gift, the parent or guardian must agree, and we'll ask them to confirm their forwarding address.
The address is managed by you, not your child. You're responsible for how it's used and for keeping your forwarding address up to date.
4. Choosing an address
- Addresses are available on a first-come, first-served basis, at the price shown. An address is only reserved once payment is complete.
- Addresses can use letters, numbers and hyphens.
- We may refuse or withdraw an address that is offensive, misleading, impersonates someone, uses someone else's brand or trade mark, or isn't a name for a child.
- You're buying the right to use the address for your child during the term. The address, and the domain it's on, belong to us. You don't own them.
- The right to use the address is personal to you and your child. You can't sell, rent, transfer or give it to anyone else, or offer to do so, except as allowed in section 8.
5. Price, payment and term
The price is shown before you pay and includes any VAT that applies. Some popular names cost more. You pay once, in advance, through our payment provider, Stripe.
Your address is active for [6 years] from the date we set it up (the "term"). We'll email you to confirm when it's working.
6. Your right to cancel
You can cancel within 14 days of buying for any reason and get a full refund. Email us at hello@mummysmail.com to cancel. We'll refund you within 14 days, using the same payment method.
After 14 days, we don't give refunds for the remaining part of the term, except as set out in sections 8 and 11 or where the law says we must.
7. Renewal, and what happens when your term ends
Before your term ends, we'll email your forwarding address at least twice, starting [90 days] before the end date, with the option to renew.
- Grace period. For [60 days] after your term ends, the address keeps forwarding, and you can still renew.
- Closed period. After the grace period, the address stops forwarding and anyone who emails it will get a message saying it doesn't exist. This lasts for at least [24 months]. During this time, we won't give the address to anyone else, and you can still ask to renew it if it's available.
- Reissue. After the closed period, the address may be given to another family.
Before your term ends, please update any accounts, schools, clubs or services that use the address. Once an address is given to another family, emails sent to it will reach them. We can't recover or redirect those emails for you.
8. Changing or cancelling after 14 days
You can change your forwarding address at any time by emailing us [or through your account page]. The forwarding address must belong to you, or to the child's other parent or legal guardian. We may ask you to confirm a change before we make it.
If the adult managing the address needs to change, for example after a separation or divorce, or if a gift buyer hands it over to the child's parent, email us. We'll move it, at no charge, to another parent or legal guardian of the same child:
- if both adults agree, or
- if they don't agree, to the parent or guardian the child mainly lives with, or as a court order says. We may ask for reasonable evidence, such as a court order or a letter from a solicitor.
We can't decide disputes between parents. If the position isn't clear, we'll keep the address forwarding as it is until it's resolved. We won't move an address to a different child or family.
You can ask us to close the address early at any time, but you won't get a refund for the unused part of the term, except where section 11 applies.
9. Using the address
The address is for your child's personal email, such as party invitations and messages from family and friends. You must not use it, or let anyone else use it:
- to sign your child up to services they're too young for, such as social media accounts with a minimum age
- for business, marketing, or signing up to mailing lists in bulk
- for anything illegal, harmful, or that could put a child at risk
- in a way that could damage our service, our email provider or other families' addresses
Our email provider has its own rules against spam, phishing, fraud and abuse, and we must follow them. If an address is used in a way that breaks those rules, we may need to suspend it, as set out in section 11.
We don't read or monitor the emails your child's address receives. Everything sent to the address is forwarded to you, including spam and junk mail, so your own email provider's filter decides what reaches your inbox. You're responsible for checking the emails you receive before sharing them with your child.
10. What we promise, and the limits
We'll provide the service with reasonable care and skill, and do our best to keep it running and fix problems quickly.
Email isn't a guaranteed delivery system. Messages can be delayed, blocked by spam filters, or sent to the wrong address by the sender. Forwarded email is also more likely than ordinary email to be delayed, put in a spam folder or rejected by the provider that runs your inbox, such as Gmail or Outlook, and we can't control how they treat it. Please check your spam folder, and mark forwarded messages as "not spam" if they end up there. Don't rely on your child's address for anything urgent, important or safety-related.
We may pause the service briefly for maintenance or because of problems with our suppliers. We'll try to give notice of planned work.
11. When we can suspend or end the service
We may suspend or close an address if you break these terms in a serious way, including by trying to sell or transfer it, if it's being used to harm a child or anyone else, if our email provider requires it because of abuse, or if the law requires it. Where it's fair to do so, we'll contact you first and give you a chance to put things right.
If we decide to stop running Mummy's Mail altogether, we'll give you at least [90 days'] notice by email and refund the unused part of your term, worked out by whole months remaining.
12. Our responsibility for loss
We're responsible for loss you suffer that's a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We're not responsible for loss that isn't foreseeable, for business losses, or for missed or delayed emails caused by things outside our reasonable control, including how other email providers handle forwarded messages.
Where we are responsible for loss, the most we'll pay for all claims relating to an address is the total you've paid us for it, including any renewals.
Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. These terms don't affect your legal rights as a consumer, or your rights under data protection law. For information about your rights, contact Citizens Advice Scotland or Citizens Advice.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example to reflect changes in the law, our service or our suppliers. If a change affects you significantly, we'll email you at least 30 days beforehand. If you don't agree to it, you can close your address and we'll refund the unused part of your term.
14. Complaints
If something's gone wrong, email hello@mummysmail.com. We'll reply within [5 working days] and try to sort it out.
15. Law and courts
These terms are governed by the law of Scotland. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can bring a claim in the courts where you live, and you keep the protection of the consumer laws that apply there.
